| Feeding Carl's Horses
All the horses are fed on Saracen Horse Feeds and their individual diet is planned by Carl’s yard manager Catherine and Lizzie Drury, Saracen Horse Feeds Senior Nutritionist. Catherine and Lizzie will liaise on a regular basis to ensure that the changing needs of the horses are addressed.
The horses are fed twice a day, 7.30 am and 5 pm. Throughout the day they all have access to plenty of locally grown red clover hay or haylage, which is analysed to ensure that it is of good nutritional value and hygienic quality.
Supplements are kept to a minimum as Saracen Horse Feeds contains all the vitamins and minerals that are required for a balanced diet. A joint supplement, the Carl Hester Performance Joint and Muscle Maintenance from Net-Tex, is fed to all the horses to provide specific nutrients that are essential for the maintenance of healthy joints. Electrolytes are fed strategically prior during and post competition to replace lost electrolyte salts and maintain hydration and reduce recovery times. |

| Dolendo
1 ½ Scps Re-Leve
2 Cups Equi Jewel
Dolendo can be quite excitable so he is fed Re-Leve because it gives him the energy that he needs to carry out the work that he is doing without exaggerating his temperament. This means that he is more attentive and has a longer concentration span! As he is also a large framed horse we use Equi Jewel to help maintain his top line and coverage across his back and his quarters, which means that we can also help to keep his meal sizes smaller but still full of non-heating energy.

2 Scoops Build Up
2 Cups Equi Jewel
When Dea arrived her owner had been feeding her Dodson and Horrell Build Up. When horses are been trained and campaigned to avoid any digestive upsets etc it was decided to keep her on her original diet. She does however, have some Equi Jewel to help maintain a shiny and glossy coat, as well as helping to maintain her body condition.

1 ½ Scoops Re-Leve
2 Cups Equi Jewel
This horse has a tendency to become too excitable if it is fed feeds that have a lot of cereals and starch, so we chose Re-Leve because it provides the energy using fibre and oil sources rather than using high levels of cereals and starch. The Equi Jewel helps to keep the coat glossy and also helps to improve recovery rates after competition and intense training sessions.

| Moviestar
1 Scoop Enduro 100
½ Scoop chaff |
| Moviestar is a good doer and the trick with him is to get the balance between providing him with enough energy to do the work that is asked for him, without overdoing it so that he becomes too heavy. The Enduro 100 works well here as there is a good supply of fibre and oil sources to provide the stamina and an inclusion of cereals and starch to give some instant energy that helps to prevent him from putting on too much weight. The elevated levels of vitamins and minerals in Enduro 100 also means that the Enduro 100 can be fed at a lower intake than other performance feeds, therefore making his body condition easier to manage. |

| Being Bling
1 Scoop Cooling Pencils
½ Scoop Alfa A
| This horse is a young stallion that still has some maturing and filling out to do so requires a nutrient dense diet to support his continued development but without too many calories as he has a larger than life personality! It would also put too much strain on immature joints if he was allowed to become too heavy. The Cooling Pencils work well in this situation but we top him up with some Alfa A because he is entire and has yet to finish growing in to himself. |

| Uthopia
1 Scoop Cooling Pencils
½ Scoop Chaff
| Working at elementary / medium level and having naturally good energy levels Uthopia does not require at this stage anything more potent than the Cooling Pencils. As he starts to progress further up the ladder and his energy requirements therefore increase he is likely to be a suitable candidate for Re-Leve in the future. |

| Winston Bond
1 Scoop Cooling Pencils
1 Bio-Life 2000
½ Scoop Chaff
Similar to Waterloo Winston Bond can be quite sensitive to changes. As he is young the excitement and other challenges that competing can bring can mean that digestive upsets are more common. The use of Bio-Life 2000 helps to ensure that this does not happen so that there are no set backs in training routines.

| Valegro
1 Scoop Sports Horse Mix
½ Scoop Chaff
| Valegro needs some more oomph in his diet in order to capture that lift and elevation that makes him so expressive. Compared to the Re-Leve and the Enduro 100 the Sports Horse Mix has a much higher starch level and so therefore provides more instant energy that is associated with an exaggeration of the horse’s natural temperament. Dressage horses work at a low intensity for long periods, particularly when they are competing so they do still require fibre and oil sources to ensure that stamina can be maintained |
